Mieux Chez Soi: Help us develop our roof terrace so that it is friendly and respectful of the environment

A roof terrace that is practical and respectful of the environment is what the landscapers of Mieux Chez Soi will have to achieve.

Mieux Chez Soi: Help us develop our roof terrace so that it is friendly and respectful of the environment

Stephanie, Nicolas and their family have a large rooftop terrace and LOVE spending time on it. They never miss an opportunity to settle there and would like it to be laid out in such a way as to be practical without ignoring ecology. How will our landscapers respect their wishes?

Elodie offers them to make this exterior the most important room in the life of the family.

To begin with and for the sake of ecology, Elodie suggests keeping the current pergola by repainting it white to give it a fresh look. It covers the pergola with reed: an assembly of natural fibres . This helps protect from the sun’s rays . She creates large wooden planters on either side of the vegetated terrace with an assortment of Mediterranean plants with edible plants such as a lemon tree or aromatic plants.

Along the wall, Elodie creates a large cupboard in treated wood to hide the air conditioning and which will also serve as storage. She then installs the family furniture under the pergola: table and chairs are placed on a new carpet.

Elodie then creates a relaxation area with two rattan armchairs to allow the family to relax in the sun. Between this relaxation area and the dining area, Elodie suspends a bench that serves both to relax and to create a new seat.

Elodie’s tip: Use the existing one for an ecological terrace

Fabien adds 2 additional rooms

Fabien first decides to remove the existing pergola and add a new one, larger and in white wood for the ecological side. It has climbing plants like jasmine on it that will bring a good smell and shade. He installs lavender planters on the side of the terrace which will serve as a screen . It has the relaxation area next to it with rattan furniture such as a sofa and an armchair, without forgetting to keep the egg armchair that the family already has. He decides to delimit this space with the help of a long planter which will close this relaxation area and give it privacy..

On the unused part for the moment, Fabien comes to dress the air conditioning system with shelves that will be arranged around it. Opposite, our architect adds a set of shelves to give a pleasant view. It is here that he then has the dining area, vegetated and with a wicker suspension .

Fabien’s tip: Delineate spaces with plants.
